Seminars, Retreats, Revivals, and Pulpit Supply

The Biblical Counseling Institute offers a variety of Seminars, Workshops, and Retreats for churches and ministry related to Christian and family life. Some of our programs are listed below, but seminars can also be designed for the specific needs of a church, ministry, or community.

Current Seminars:

Marriage That’s Out Of This World…

A marriage retreat taught by Dr. Ab and Karen Abercrombie over the course of a Friday evening and all-day Saturday. The seminar focuses upon the biblical structure and foundation for the marital home, covenant living, godly communication and problem solving, intimacy, spiritual growth and maturity as a team. The couple is encouraged to step outside the “world’s order” for marriage and embrace the perfect, Scriptural order God intended for the family.

Pillars of the Christian Home...

A retreat structured for adults of the church (married and single) that teaches a foundation for biblical home-life. This is an excellent seminar for singles and those contemplating marriage as well as couples who have been together for years. Matters of Scriptural order for the home, the roles of husband and wife, parenting responsibilities, communication, intimacy, and growing as a spiritual team are emphasized. There is significant focus given to individual relationship development, reliance upon Christ, employing a biblical template of evaluation, and the maintenance of one’s heart in proper order. Taught by Dr. Ab and Karen Abercrombie, the seminar is typically held over the course of one Saturday, or may be taught over two evening sessions.

Parenting: Growing the Heart of a Child

In this seminar, the Abercrombies teach parents to deal with the behaviors of childhood through the development of the child’s spiritual heart. To do this, parents first confront their own relationship with Christ and heart condition that may be affecting the marriage, home, and parenting. Then, they are taught to build a Scriptural climate in the home, addressing all behavior through the template of Scripture, shaping the child’s orientation to know and accept Christ as his/her Savior, and then to develop a growing a connected relationship with Him that defines and dictates conduct. This seminar is generally taught over the course of two evenings or on Saturday.

Growing a Godly Adolescent

Similar in structure and approach offered in the parenting seminar above, this workshop focuses upon the unique challenges of raising godly teens. This is accomplished through the development of the parent’s hearts and connectedness to Christ that enables them to build a Scriptural climate within the home, forming the basis of instruction and example for the growing adolescent. The Abercrombies teach this course over two evenings or on Saturday.

Caught in the Web: Breaking Free from Internet Pornography

A popular course taught by Dr. Ab Abercrombie that examines the seductive nature of pornography while looking to Scripture for permanent  transformation. Too many courses teach that the problems of lust, idolatry, and obsession with sexual sin are lifelong struggles for men. This course teaches emphatically that there is a remedy that brings total freedom and restores confidence in the believer and his family. This course is taught over one evening.

A Biblical Response to Depression and Anxiety...

So much is written today regarding the medical and psychological issues that “cause” depressive and anxious conditions, we wanted to provide a biblical exposition of the topic. Looking into Scripture, Dr. Abercrombie provides an in-depth evaluation of human suffering and the biblical remedy provided. This course is taught over a single evening.

The Reasons for Human Suffering....

Dr. Abercrombie presents the biblical framework that explains human suffering as a product of one’s heart condition and his/her proximity to the Vine of Jesus (John 15:5). By allowing Scripture to illuminate the heart, access to the working of the Holy Spirit and the transformational power of Christ can be reestablished in the life of the believer. This is a one session workshop.

Sufficient and Superior....The Case for Biblical Counseling?

This seminar offers an overview of Biblical Counseling and explains what defines it as different from secular psychology and other forms of Christian Counseling. The theological basis for biblical care is offered along with evidence that God’s Word is fully sufficient and superior to any method of care offered by the world. This program often provides a good foundation leading into other biblical counseling courses and may be used as a forum for educating a church, ministry staff, and other interested students. Taught by Dr. Abercrombie, the course is offered over a single evening.
